The injection moulding is an industrial process in which the plastic raw material is melted inside a cylinder plasticizing. Then the melted material is injected under pressure within a closed mold. When the injection is finished, the cooling and solidification phase starts: the mould is slowly opened and the solid plastic product is released. The injection moulding is one of the most widespread and appreciated way to process plastics, but why?
No doubt that one of the main advantages of this technology is the rapidity and the high productivity. In fact, with the injection moulding you can obtain a huge number of plastic parts in a very short time, and the size repeatability is guaranteed. Moreover, thanks to the high automation and the reduction of material waste, injection moulding of thermoplastics allows a remarkable saving of money. Nevertheless, another important feature of this technology is the quality of the production. In fact, with the injection moulding it’s possible to produce plastic parts with complex geometries, also characterized by undercuts and inserts, that otherwise can be very hardly obtained through an expensive extrusion process.
